With the increased need for complex window and door systems, wouldn’t it be nice if there was something to simplify the manufacturing? Emarks, also known as part marks, is a great way to achieve this!

Emarks add value

Emarks are unique identifiers of a component which allows workers to lay out complex configurations. It consists of unique numbers on labels which correlate to markings on the glass and aluminium. Our software can generate a fabrication report based on a design which shows what makes up the product and how to assemble it. This provides employees a summary of what they need to build the product.

It’s easier to explain emarks in the wider context of understanding the manufacturing data in V6. For example, you can show a part fabrication drawing and ask the question ‘where in the frame does ‘part A’ go?’ Then, you go back to the V6 drawing board and turn on emarks, and it shows where that piece goes, it helps to relate the manufactured piece to the elevation.

These add value to:

  • shopfronts and curtainwalls. Often, they are erected on site or assembled in the shop from a large number of similar pieces and it helps make sense of all the pieces.
  • all product types. They can be analysed over the scope of one complete production group (or over the complete quote if not using groups) to provide information on how many identical pieces you have to make for that production release.  This is especially useful when you have machined parts because it’s hard to group those in a report.

Frame emarks

There are also frame emarks, which have similar scale-of-production benefits. If you apply these they let you find all the sashes which are the same, and tell your sash department to make 53 exact and give them a cutting list.  Then, you can also generate a drawing per quote item showing which sash emark goes where.

Glass emarks

Glass emarks are also available and are valuable for ordering from a vendor and then relating the incoming pieces to specific lights.  Ordering itself isn’t hard (you just print a list of glass grouped by size) but you still need to know where it goes when it arrives.

Emarks add value and provides manufacturers a competitive advantage when simplifying the manufacturing of complex window and door systems. Talk to Soft Tech today about how to simplify your manufacturing www.softtech.com/contact
